Today, my ex-boyfriend surprised me with a gorgeous, giant stuffed tiger as a belated birthday gift. I thought it was a lovely gesture until a friend told me she had thrown it in the dumpster behind our building this morning. FML

Not really. Who gives garbage as a gift? Who knows where that thing has been? (Other than the dumpster, obviously.) And it was IN the dumpster. that means he didn't walk by and happen to see it. He would have had to go dumpster diving for it. Ew. I hope he at least washed it with disinfectant before giving it to her, but I somehow highly doubt that.

I'm guessing he became your ex after the cat was let out of the bag.

One woman's trash is another woman's....present.

That's lame. he's recycling a gift to give to you? he's being CHEAP

So you liked it until you found out it was free. It was clearly in good condition or you wouldn't have accepted it so what's the problem here?

It wasn't just free. It was in the dumpster. You don't give someone trash as a present. It's not very hygienic and he clearly didn't put much thought into it

#16: I don't know about you, but I would freak out of my boyfriend or gave me a stuffed animal from the garbage. It's unhygienic, not to mention it shows how cheap and unthoughtful he is.

My question is why would an EX give you a present?

Part B and why did you accept it?

No I believe it was just "Boyfriend" until after OP found out what he gifted her, and then OP put their "ex" where he found the gift.

FML logic slipped my mind for a second. Guy does this "obvious" grounds for break up. Chick does this it's perfectly fine and the guy should suck it up. Just sayin "the double standard is strong here."

When have you ever seen evidence that it's okay for a girl to do it?

I cannot stand people who insist on seeing double standards in situations where they are none. When has it ever been okay for a woman to do this? What makes you think people would feel any different if the OP was a guy talking about his ex girlfriend?

One mans garbage is another mans treasure.

The right time to wrap a gift for him ;)

That can be true, 19. See a perfectly good couch on the side of the road waiting to be picked up by the garbage men? Sure, take advantage of that. But drag something made of fabric (which absorbs yuckiness) out of the dumpster and give it to someone as a gift? That's just gross.
