Today, my family and I were coming back from a trip to the US. As we reached the border patrol we realized that we were one passport short. The border patrol lectured us for 30 minutes about how irresponsible we were for not realizing that they had forgotten to give us one of our passports back. FML

Both parties were at fault. They should have been more thorough in their work and you should have checked to make sure all the passports were there before moving off. FYL & YDI.

#4, you obviously have no idea what US border patrol is like. If you walk away from them while htey're talking to you, they'll take you away, interrogate you, stripsearch you & basically treat you like a terrorist

Yeah, last I checked, New York is still part of the US. And anyway, OP, you ARE rather irresponsible for not noticing the fact they forgot to give you a passport back. You should be watching where that thing is very carefully while you're traveling, though I understand that things are often rushed and confused at airports.

As we reached the border patrol we realized that we were one passport short. The border patrol lectured us for 30 minutes about how irresponsible we were for not realizing that they had forgotten to give us one of our passports back sooo as you reached the border they lectured you for them ALREADY having one of your passports? fake or you don't know how to tell a story

also, to the guy from Canada who called them "glorified mall cops"... Border Patrol agents are federal agents, and higher rank than cops. border customs agents are a lower rank. they don't go through as much training as border patrol.

so, you live in New York and were taking a trip to the US? I think you have some real problems to work out ;)

You live in the US and needed passports to visit the US? Oh, totally. That makes perfect sense. Jet

yeah im still confused about how you realized you left one passport at the border, as you were approaching the border. if you left it on your way out, you're lucky for just getting lectured for 30 minutes without any other trouble. although a 30 minute lecture about passports sounds slightly intriguing.

When leaving the country, always have your passport on you. I'm assuming you went to either Canada or Mexico, otherwise there would have been more problems on your trip.

This doesn't make sense. Even if we ignore the fact that you obviously took a trip back to the US afterward to be able to post this, for your story to make sense the border patrol would have had to have your passport for at least a few hours - and you would have had to encounter the same agent on the same shift, for them to know they had your passport, which wouldn't have happened because different agents work exit and entry
