Today, I’m considering a divorce. My father-in-law has never liked me and is very vocal about that, names like "bastard" and "prick" are common. My wife is normally very headstrong and takes no nonsense, but she lets him treat me this way so she must agree with him. The wedding was only a year ago. FML

Today, I was the best man at a wedding and I was flirting with a cute bridesmaid. Then this old guy decides to give the newlyweds a toast. He made a crappy joke and barely anybody laughed. So I say to the girl, "Wow that sucked, who the hell does he think he is?" The girl replies, "That's my dad". FML

Today, I got married to the man I love even though my whole family told me not to marry him. He got into a drunken fight at our wedding and is now in jail. He apparently won't be getting out any time soon due to charges I didn't know about. FML

It would have been nice for the husband to say something to support OP in response to his dad. Silence can be interpreted as him agreeing with his dad's drunken comment. I would have said "Yeah, not everybody gets what they want. I wanted to marry a courageous and loving guy who's from a decent family with a respectable father in law and not a drunken half wit, but I married your son instead... Such is life!" Then laugh...
