Today, I’m considering a divorce. My father-in-law has never liked me and is very vocal about that, names like "bastard" and "prick" are common. My wife is normally very headstrong and takes no nonsense, but she lets him treat me this way so she must agree with him. The wedding was only a year ago. FML

Today, I was the best man at a wedding and I was flirting with a cute bridesmaid. Then this old guy decides to give the newlyweds a toast. He made a crappy joke and barely anybody laughed. I'm sorry op, I would be upset if I was in your situation. But I'm sure he was just afraid to say anything to your insanely drunk father and create a scene. And I'm so sick of people saying anything about a divorce. I really wish you guys luck on your first marriage, and the marriages that follow the first one.

Don't divorce him or even temporarily separate over that.. that's freakin ridiculous. Everyone was probably either extremely shocked and didn't know what to say, or afraid to stand up to him.

Maybe they were ignoring him because he was drunk? No person I've ever encountered drunk and disagreed with has went, "Gee, you're right, I'm sorry." Maybe they were just avoiding conflict. Or, your family is a big buncha jerks. Sorry OP.
