Just ask him what she's talking about. Either it'll start you and him talking about something that might be important or at least let him know his mother is willing to sabotage his relationship.

My father actually said something similar after the ceremony at our wedding. Luckily I had already told my husband all about my troubled childhood so it came as no surprise.. still, real smooth dad, real smooth.
