If the tampon is nearing the 8 hour limit, it's coming out. Whoever may be in the bathroom is just going to have to understand I don't want Toxic Shock Syndrome for leaving it in too long. I've had them leak plenty of times, I usually wear a liner too but some people wear thongs.

trying to be diplomatic, i think the problem wasnt that the girlfriend was on her period, it was that she felt it was appropriate to change when he was brushing his teeth. having said that, i've changed a pad whilst my bf has been in the shower, but i made him turn his back until id finished. i agree with the people comparing it to pooing, it's quite graphic and i can understand why OP had a problem

there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wring with that. gosh men are so picky and stubborn. if it really bothered you that much you could have walked out of the bathroom brushing your teeth until she was finished. but girls go thru so much pain on their periods between cramps and feeling fat and worrying about bleeding through... its not like she took the tampon and dangled it in your face. she took it out, let it drop in the toilet, and put a new one in. probably before she bled thru. then obviously she washed her hands afterwards! honestly just get over it and suck it up. she's your girlfriend, not some disgusting smelly random girl. you should be happy she's changing her tampon in front of you and not peeing on a pregnancy stick anyway.
