it's worse the other way--i'm not jewish and my boyfriend is. jewish parents are much more strict with this situation because when you have kids, as long as the mother is jewish, your kids are, regardless of whether the father is. but if the mother isn't jewish, your kids aren't, or some more lax denominations may consider them to be "half-jewish." the situation sucks either way, especially when the parents are jerks about it!
