I don't think that material objects are really that important, but the gesture is what makes the impression. Why not get her flowers? She might think you are taking her for granted and are not worth getting flowers for. She comes home with flowers from an admirer, and you basically complain that someone else is making you look bad, they've succeeded. Why not surprise her with something romantic? If you love your girlfriend, you should stop complaining that someone is making you look bad and prove to her that they're wrong.

Maybe she is just telling you that you have been lacking when it comes to romance. Up your game a little and do something that this guy cannot, surprise her with the things she loves. Prove yourself and she will forget about that other guy.
