Today, my girlfriend donated most of my book collection because she got me a Kindle for Christmas. Some were signed, including my Harry Potters. FML

Muggles... What do you expect from them?

WHY do people think it's okay to get rid of things that do not belong to them without the owner's consent?!

Goodness if someone tried throwing my books away because I got a kindle or whatever I would be so mad!!! I have some books I own on my iPad but I still love reading the actual book. I'm sorry that happened to you and I hope you can get some of the books back!

Yeah don't let people touch your shit.

It has nothing to do with Harry Potter or what books specifically were sold; the fact is that OP's girlfriend, without permission, took his (signed) books and got rid of them just because he now has a Kindle. Not everyone wants to throw out their physical books just because they get a Kindle. I know I wouldn't; imagine if the power went out and you were unable to charge it. If you wanted to read, you'd still have your physical copies. So yeah, never mind that Harry Potter is involved; what OP's girlfriend did was wrong just because she did so without permission.

I would feel sorry for you... But JK Rowling stole too many things from the Lord of the Rings. I can't seem to appreciate her since she wasn't thinking creative, she's just a good writer who renamed a couple things and called it her own.

I really don't like her either (one of the main reasons I didn't like HP all that much was that every time I read it, I had a constant feeling of "I've read this all before", and I'm not talking about the whole "Harry goes to school, oh noes Voldemort and friends is up to no good! but luckily Harry will sort it out a few weeks before the end of summer term" schtick that's in every book except the last one. But even so, the books are extremely valuable, and they obviously have a lot of sentimental value to OP. This story is a book lover's worst nightmare.
