An animal life is worth less than a human life, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be respected. To the OP: Can't say FYL, cause you should have been better informed. Can't say YDI either though, because no-one deserves to watch a baby hamster get eaten because of them.

Actually it's natural for the mother hamster to eat her babies. Whether you touch them or not. You're supposed to separate them when they're born. So technically it's not you're fault.

A lot of animals eat there young for a variety of reasons. Our mouse ate all 9 of her babies because she was not taken care of in her last home. They eat there young rather than subject them to a hostile environment. Some larger mammals spontaneously abort for the same reason. Don't beat yourself up to bad; the real problem is that these animals aren't really meant to be pets.

might not have been your fault. some new mothers eat their children due to inexperience and such. its a rodent thing... never understood it. anyways... its really not ur fault. ive touched baby birds, gerbils, etc and some ate their children some didnt. it really depends on the animal
