Today, my hamster gave birth. The babies were very cute and I couldn't resist petting one. Apparently touching a baby hamster will cause it's mother to reject and devour it. I am now know in my family as "The Hamster Slaughterer." FML

Today I was born, and this strange creature towered over my mother and my siblings, and touched one of my siblings. Later my mother decided to eat the sibling that the creature touched. Now I am terrified of being petted. FML

I'm sorry to hear that. I honestly didn't know that fact either. I don't blame you because you didn't know and therefore didn't purposely do it.

To #27: Considering what you said, I'd give several times more respect to the hamsters than I would to your elitist bitch ass. An animal life is worth less than a human life, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be respected. To the OP: Can't say FYL, cause you should have been better informed. Can't say YDI either though, because no-one deserves to watch a baby hamster get eaten because of them.

I didn't know either. Not everyone breeds small animals on a regular basis.

wow...don't get anymore pets you hamster slaughterer xP

Actually it's natural for the mother hamster to eat her babies. Whether you touch them or not. You're supposed to separate them when they're born. So technically it's not you're fault.

Wow. That's gross and sad. Good thing that doesn't happen with humans. Normally.

A lot of animals eat there young for a variety of reasons. Our mouse ate all 9 of her babies because she was not taken care of in her last home. They eat there young rather than subject them to a hostile environment. Some larger mammals spontaneously abort for the same reason. Don't beat yourself up to bad; the real problem is that these animals aren't really meant to be pets.

might not have been your fault. some new mothers eat their children due to inexperience and such. its a rodent thing... never understood it. anyways... its really not ur fault. ive touched baby birds, gerbils, etc and some ate their children some didnt. it really depends on the animal

haha #1,not alot of people seem to know facts about hamsters..? but thats ****** upp.
