They should've just moved everything around without taking anything as they did, but instead leave a note saying "you'll never figure out what we took". The years of therapy you would have to go through afterward would teach you to get better things.

Chances are he put his hand on the note. If he wasn't gloved, then he likely stuck his fingerprints on it. Assuming he has been arrested before (Which I would guess he has if he is that sloppy) he is in the system already. If the cops run his finger prints through the system, they will probably find your robber. That is, assuming you kept the note.
