Today, my Jewish boyfriend came over for my extended family's Easter party. My grandmother made fun of him for being Jewish so badly, that he left, crying. She doesn't see what she did wrong. FML

Today, my religious parents were hosting a family dinner. Not only did we have to wait over an hour for my grandma to finally show up, but when she did, she had her 30 year old boytoy in tow. Apparently, "Granny has needs too you know, hahaha!" Goodbye peaceful family. FML

Today, I was having lunch with my fiancé's family. After he excused himself to use the bathroom, his grandmother glared at me, sneered, "I never liked you" and kept eating while the others smirked. When my fiancé returned, everyone pretended nothing had happened. FML

I believe in respecting my elders, however is this situation I would have pulled my grandmother aside at the very first comment she made. I would have told her apologize and to change the subject and that if she continued WE would be leaving. Your boyfriend is a guest and should be treated with respect. I know family is important but there are lines you just dont cross. I can't believe you let the insults continue to the point he was crying. It's your family and you needed to have controlled the situation.

It's true, 83, that the opinions of others shouldn't have an effect on what you believe in, but it's also true that nobody should have to endure being personally attacked. You can stand strong in your beliefs but also be vulnerable to being insulted because of those beliefs. That's terrible, OP. I hope you apologized on her behalf and told Granny that her behavior was entirely unacceptable. I don't care how old you are, it doesn't give you the right to verbally abuse.

Just because they are men doesn't mean that they don't have feelings. There are many men that are sensitive to what people say / do / think about things that mean something to them. And being sensitive doesn't make you gay, it just means you are comfortable with sharing your feelings.
