Ask her nicely to replace it. If she tells you it's too stupid too. Pawn her jewelry or other things she doesn't need. When she asks where every thing went. Reply "Oh, you mean that stupid stuff? I sold them to replace what you wrecked. Oh, are you mad? Huh... that's funny. You made it clear earlier that we don't respect other people's property in this house. Sooo."
that could backfire soooo easy... and im pretty sure the mom wouldnt "learn her lesson"
#11 your solution takes too long. Just rent a wood chipper and a lot if bleach.
Most mom's would never send their child to jail over stuff they don't use. Personally I treat my mother like a queen, and would simply forgive her, in OP's position. But my mom would have apologized and felt bad for a long time. Even after she made it up to me. If OP's mom is really such a b*tch. I just suggested something, that may not have made her "learnt her lesson." But atleast reflect on how she treated her child.
@39 I would pawn enough to compensate for the comic book. If the mother takes it that far and calls the police, then you are justified in charging her with destruction of property.
She said it was her favorite comic book, and it was a collectors item. Also, if she doesnt't have a reciept or something similar, then she can't prove its hers, so pawn her stuff which she has no proof of owning, and get another collector's item.
I really don't think that it's easily replacable if it was worth $200. Sorry.
And damaging somebody else's property could be criminal damage. Legally, the Mum would be held responsible for a minor (at least one at an age where she uses colouring books). Not saying it's OK to commit a crime, but people seem to forget it goes both ways.
The comic wasn't hers to give to the little sister, either. Not that that would make pawning the mother's stuff okay.
Sounds like your Mom owes you $200
Man the ignorance is real! Sorry about that OP!
**** them. They should ask you before they take something of yours.
Keep collectors and things worth a a lot wrapped in their plastic and in a frame. That way people know not to ever touch it. Sorry OP, that sucks.
I agree with 15. The sister (depending on her age) may be too young to realize it's not a colouring book. I also understand that the mom may have only glanced at what she was doing and didn't realize it was a valuable comic book and not a colouring book. However the problem comes in when the mom is just degrading & mean to Op. Do what 15 says and protect your valuables and collectables so that the family not only realizes its importance, but so they don't have easy access to it as well.
If it was rare before... Think of how rare it is now!
It irks me when parents give away things that don't belong to them without even asking. It could be really important (as it was in this case)
Sorry op that really sucks
After watching many episodes of "Comic Book Men" I'm curious which comic book OP had that was worth that much?
Same here
Thrilling.

Completely rude and ignorant of them sorry OP
Your mom doesn't think very highly of you, doesn't say much for her .
