Today, my little sister decided to color-in my favorite black-and-white comic book. It was worth over $200. When I told my mother, she said, "Oh that old thing? I thought it was a stupid coloring book you were too stupid to color." FML

This is something like my mother and little sister would do...Until I tell my mam how much the thing costs and then she starts screaming at me for "wasting" my money on it or something...

That really sucks, but you shouldnt leave things like that lying around where little kids can get it. YLS and YDI.

Swell mothering. Can't say as I blame you OP, had a similar thing happen to me many years ago...some people just don't care about others. My suggestion, either explain the value of the comic and calmly open a dialogue about it...if that fails just chalk it up to experience and keep valuables safely hidden away.

as someone who collects manga and graphic novels like Johnny the homicidal maniac that hurt me when I read that luckily I had parents who knew to respect other peoples property my older brother who loved blowing up me and my sisters dolls had many an allowance taken to replace said dolls as punishment for blowing and or destroying the old ones sorry your mother doesn't respect your property OP I tell her to not expect any xmas/birthday/mothers day gifts until you can get a new copy of the comic basically say my money is going to replacing my comic

I like that approach. All $ that would normally have gone to your mom goes right into a savings account for the book. I HIGHLY recommend getting a locked box of some kind to put anything important into. Open it if your parents insist on seeing what's in it (not drugs) but lock it right back up. And if your little sis ever goes stomping about in your mom's expensive heels, or wears good jewelry, or gets into Mom's makeup, don't feel any real need to stop her. "Oh, you never wear them, I just figured those were some ugly old shoes you gave her to play with." Not unless Mom apologizes and does something to help make up for her carelessness and lack of concern for your personal stuff.

Go purchase a lockable trunk and put the things that are highly valuable in there, then wear the key around your neck or hide it well. I had to do this to prevent my sister letting her dog chew up some of my childhood toys.

This, I just had to do this too, only it was to protect my writings. F our lives for having to put up with nosy disrespectful people.

stop buying your mom presents and use the money to buy another

That's not very nice. Sucks when parents don't listen. Sorry OP.

Your mom is simply a bi***. Sorry Op.
