Today, my mom and I got the answer to the question, "Is our dog really dumb enough to jump out of the window of a moving vehicle?" The answer: Yes. FML

Hey! Just to start, my dog is absolutely fine. So, we think she may have stepped on the button to lower the window without us realizing before it was too late. No worries, though we were driving fairly slowly after just pulling out of the school parking lot. For anyone wondering the breed, she is a beagle!

Not all dogs are smart.. Why was the window open wide enough for it to jump out? You're responsible for your dog. Hope he/she is okay!

Raining cats and dogs all over the highway

And we all got the answer to the question: Is OP irresponsible enough to open a window wide enough for a dog to jump through in a moving vehicle? YDI, your poor dog doesn't.

If you had any inkling about if your dog would jump out the window of a moving vehicle, maybe not roll the windows down.

Why would you test that theory in the 1st place? This isnt FYL more like FY dog's life. I hope he turns out okay.

Smart people leave the window open just enough for the dog to be comfortable, not open enough for them to jump out of. You and your mom seem too stupid to own a dog.

Your an idiot roll the window up high enough so it can't jump out. Your fault and I hope the dog bites you

Yeah, not as bad a sister that threw a kitten off a 20ft deck, telling me to catch.

My dog did exactly the same thing just a few hours ago. His window was down enough for fresh air, but he managed to roll it down further by himself, probably without even realizing he was on the button. I take his leash off when he's in the car because it gets tangled on my E-brake and I'd rather not have my car stall out in traffic. A lot of dogs (mine included) get very excited in the car, and no matter how well trained they are, it can be hard to get them to sit still. Since we were headed to the dog park, as we got close he just couldn't wait anymore, hopped out, and took off for the gate. Luckily the worst of his injuries is a little scratch on his jaw, but I almost had a heart attack. Don't sit there and point fingers. Cars are not an ideal environment for excited dogs, and if both humans are in the front and the dog is in the back, the passenger will have a hard time keeping an eye on the dog without twisting around to look in the back.

You're an idiot. They have invented these crazy things called doggy seat belts, or attaching the leash to the seat so the dog cannot get out. You can also, in many cars, lock the window. A dog should not be in the front where he can touch the e-brake. You are one dumb dog owner.

I'd like to see you put a 110 lb dog in a doggy seat belt, just because you don't put a dog in a doggy seat belt does not make you a bad dog owner. Some dogs freak out when harnessed in a seat belts some don't, it depends on the dogs personality. Don't tell someone they are a bad owner because they don't do the same thing you do.

#43 Its very possible he may drive a coupe that doesn't have a back seat at all. I do and its a little more difficult with an excited dog although I've never had an incident like this.

While accidents do happen like this, in most cases they can be prevented. How many unrestrained dogs in pick up beds do we see a week? Owners with windows fully down? More then I can count on this end. My dog is a psycho in the car. But I have found ways to restrain him to both precent an accident and protect him. Yes, even the best prepared dog owners can have something similar happen. But in many cases, people just aren't using common sense and give their dog too much free reign in the car because they have never done anything like that before.
