Sometimes dogs just get excited, it doesn't necessarily mean they're dumb. Anyways, if the human race is able to have so many dumb idiots, it shouldn't be that surprising that we have a few unintelligent canines on our hands (not calling your dog stupid). I hope he/she is okay!

I once saw a cartoon on a birthday card that showed the real reason dogs stick their heads out of windows is because we stink so bad to them.

This is why animals should be restrained in some way (seatbelt, for example) and the window shouldn't be open wide enough for them to be able to fall out. Sorry OP, but YDI. I hope your dog is okay and I hope you learned your lesson.

Well from what it sounds like, OP may be a teenager in HS and gets picked up from school or stayed after and got picked up. Since the dog is a beagle, maybe she was small enough to sit in OP's lap and OP was loosely holding her. OP and mom were probably talking about the school day and whatnot and being slightly elevated, the dog may have hit the button by accident. It's really irritating to see some of these comments about calling the OP stupid for leaving the window down enough. Read their response. They said the dog hit the button.

Your dog isn't dumb...it's a DOG. They make dog seat belts for a reason.

Sounds like you're some of the people you see with the window so wide the dogs practically hanging out of it. And no belt or anything. Smart.

Back when I was taking my son to Montessori school my female miniature poodle did the same thing; thankfully we were at low speed with no oncoming traffic on a side street... she never did it again :)
