BasketGhost tells us more.
Hey! Just to start, my dog is absolutely fine. So, we think she may have stepped on the button to lower the window without us realizing before it was too late. No worries, though we were driving fairly slowly after just pulling out of the school parking lot. For anyone wondering the breed, she is a beagle!

Dogs aren't as smart as humans.. You can't expect them to know that the vehicle is moving. Plus, taking the risk and opening your window wide enough for that poor dog to jump out of.
Why on earth was he able to jump out?! We had a dog do that and lost his eye! Now all windows are locked when dogs are in the car. I hope your dog is ok and that you learned a lesson here
You're the dumb one for not stopping something that was easily preventable.
Why would you have the window open that much! The world just got the answer there waiting for! Your bad dog owners!!!!
Why was the window down far enough for the dog to do this? It's not safe. Neither is sticking their head out. Many eye injuries are caused by that. There are also dog seatbelts that work great. I'm sure Sid would love if I put his window down more when he's in the car, bit his safety is a tad more important.
Know you can see if a dog can have nine lives.
Looks to me as the dog isn't the only dumb one in the vehicle.

how do you not notice a window opening?
I had a beagle for 16 years, we grew up together. She was dumb in every form but I loved her to bits. She rolled off the deck once as we were building it, very funny lots of memories. Everyone says beagles are suppose to be smart but truthfully they are just good hunters due to their nose. Ours was, glad to know yours is okay!
I have a beagle currently and have owned other beagles beforehand and can say this from experience. They arent smart in many ways they are good hunters because of their noses and persistence at hunting. They also run away a lot due to these traits. Once they scent a rabbit there is little stopping them at getting it
I am not surprised. When our beagle was younger and not arthritic she once jumped out of the car window as we pulled up to the vets. Golden retriever did it a bunch of times being too impatient to wait once the car made it into the driveway, but big dumb dog it's not as shocking. Beagle, you just are stunned because they wiggle right out.
beagles are actually one of the dumbest breeds according to scientists .
Every beagle I've been around is very smart. I have one myself. They are just very hyper and distracted. When they catch a scent nothing is going to stop them from tracking it down. Being a hound dog, all they do is catch trails. Theyre fairly easy to train and very loveable. Just way to hyper for their own good.
Same as my dog. Knowing beagles, she probably smelled something
I have been in the same situation OP. I have a pitball/lab mix. One day we were driving looking at houses when our dog seen a cat and jumped out of the window. We were going slow so he was fine. He knew as soon as he jumped onto the ground he messed up and stopped lol. I'm glad your dog is ok!

Not all dogs are smart.. Why was the window open wide enough for it to jump out? You're responsible for your dog. Hope he/she is okay!
Would his name happen to be Marley?
