Today, my mom had my girlfriend and me over. Out of the blue, she pulled out my grandmother's wedding ring and gave it to me saying I can now propose. My girlfriend started screaming and said yes. I have been seeing someone else for 3 months and was going to break up with my girlfriend tomorrow. FML

Today, I went to my girlfriend's house to break up with her. It was a hard decision and both of us became quite emotionally overwhelmed at the time. We began to hug as a final goodbye, then her mum burst in the room and yelled, "HE FINALLY PROPOSED!" FML

This is an F her life....not F your life. If you're too much of an asshole to admit you've been cheating for three months and you still insist on bringing your girlfriend to family dinners when you're planning on breaking up with her, then you deserve everything that happened. YDI for being a cheater who doesn't have the balls to be honest with a girl who obviously loves you enough to accept a marriage proposal. As for those of you who say the mom was completely out of line...for all you know, the OP, the girlfriend, and the mom all talked about marriage before and the OP just changed his mine. I was super close to my ex's mother, and my ex and I used to talk about getting married...so I could see her doing something like that too. In fact, she still calls me her daughter-in-law....
