No way, parents absolutely have a right to 'invade the privacy' of their children. If you were cutting it was because of serious depression and you needed intervention. No parent should idly stand by if something seems to be wrong with their child. That would be so much worse...

Dear Diary, Today I went to go visit Little Brother again. He almost bit through his constraints and now i need to go buy a new roll of duct tape. on the bright side his stump is healing where i cut off his left foot. Man that tasted good. Btw Mommy might be getting suspicious so i may have to move him from the shed to that cave in the woods. Oh, and do you think scissors will cut all the way through his tongue? Love, OP
