I've played bass for 12 years and I've had to sell various pieces of equipment when laid off and right now I only have a half stack left withouta bass to even play on it.

Even if she bought it for you, your mom should not sell something that's yours. When she gave it to you, it became yours. And even if your trombone is worth a couple thousand, that isn't that much money in the long run. It'll be here and gone before you know it, it's not going to last. Because of this fact, selling your possessions is a stupid way to scrounge up money unless its stuff you no longer use or need. It only delays the inevitable, its a poor solution. In one month, now you'll be both poor AND trombone-less. Ha, you know what you could do? Stand on the side of the street and play your trombone for tips. XD
