This was exactly my thought. Most people cook with a plastic spatula and even when they've been sitting in the pan they don't get very hot. I've taken mine directly out of the pan and used my fingers to pull of bits of food that get stuck on the end. If it was metal that may be a different story but most people have non-stick pans so metal spatulas have fallen out of popularity.
