Today, my mum yelled "Son of a bitch!" as I narrowly beat her at a game of Mario Kart. I jokingly yelled back "Hell yeah I am!" Now I'm grounded for two weeks, birthday included, all because my mum's a sore loser. FML

I'm so surprised at the amount of people saying moms should deserve unconditional respect, even when he was only joking and she said it first. Respect is earned, and she just lost quite a bit of it.

And who did she insult? nobody. it'd be a completely different story if she actually called him a son of a bitch. And calling her a bitch, joking or not wouldn't fly with most women, who have self respect. she didn't need to earn any respect in this situation. he shouldn't have been disrespectful. And if you truly think that way, I feel sorry for you. because whom ever you end up with is probably going to get insulted out of nowhere too. But as you said, respect is earned. good luck keeping anybody in your life.

you dont think a mother earned respect by all those years? But a while ago there was an FML about the guy saying to the stay at home mom she had no life ambitions and everyone chimed in saying "being a mother is lifes best thing" and "its the greatest thing one can do, dont listen to him!" Apparently not because people think its okay to call their mother a bitch. And comments like "she has to earn respect like everyone else." To the rest of the world, where she is just another person yes, but this was his mother. If you dont realize she couldve aborted him, left him in a dumpster or given him up. But no she raised him all those years, fed and clothed him, took care of him all those years. She even spends time with him enough to be playing games with him. How many kids beg for time with their parents. Yes its not right for her to swear to begin with; lead by example after all. But if you dont think she, as his mother hasnt earned his respect, then I feel sorry for you and all those who have to encounter your lack of perspective.

If it weren't for your mother going through 40 weeks of tolerating being sick, kicked in the ribs, bladder and any other body part you decided to assult. Then suffering through countless hour of unimaginable pain, and end up with changes to her body that last a lifetime, you wouldn't be here. Unconditional respect has already been earned!

wahh wahh wahh yes because I'm sure being pregnant, those things are to be expected duh!

83- I agree that mothers should be respected unless there's a valid reason for them not to be. But surely you can see how OP's mother very much overreacted? Yes, OP implied that she is a bitch, but he said it in an obviously joking way, right after she'd just called him a "son of a bitch". The word "bitch" can be used jokingly, my boyfriend jokingly calls me a bitch if I put my cold feet on him, and I don't start whining because I know he's joking. This doesn't mean I have a lack of "self respect", it means I have a sense of humour, which clearly OP's mom does not. I mean, grounding him on his birthday for something said jokingly in response to an insult that SHE said? Seems a little harsh to me. 85- Again, I agree mothers should generally be respected but some mothers just don't deserve it. For instance, I don't think cruel and abusive mothers deserve to be respected just because they went through pregnancy

116- Have a kid and see if you still feel the same about that

Yeah. I can agree that your mom is a bitch, and a hypocrite.

And she's also part of the reason he exists.

Ha ha ha ha! Your a quick thinker and you still win in my eyes

Your mom has no sense of humor. I would laugh if my kids said that to me.

Mario Kart is such an intense game, especially if you play a 1on1 on rainbow road O_O

At least my mom admitted to us growing up that she was a bitch
