Today, my new roommate woke me up at noon to bitch about my "selfish sleeping habits" and how they ruin her ability to invite anyone over. I work the graveyard shift at the hospital. FML

Take your roommate to the graveyard & bury her.

That's so rude of her, not everyone is on the same sleep schedule.

Still though that would be frustrating to not be able to have friends over if you're demanding quiet. Do you have earplugs? They saved me form killing my roomie!

You don't need absolute silence to sleep, my guess is that the new roommate has friends that can only scream out replies.

Earplugs that would block out the chatter would probably make it much harder to hear an alarm clock.

"Okay. Find a new roommate---hopefully one with 'selfless' sleeping habits."

Why is everyone taking the side of the roommate? If she has a graveyard shift, it might not be very wise to have a roommate in the first place. If someone get's far of the day/night rhythm (0AM - 8AM) I say let them buy earplugs.

OP specified that this was a new roommate. It is to be assumed that she kept no secrets regarding her job before her roommate agreed to live with her. If the roommate had a problem with this, then they shouldn't have moved in with OP in the first place.

Wake her up in the middle of the night and start yelling the same things at her. Also, tell her she needs to understand that not everything can work out just for her.

My thoughts exactly. I work nights and people are always wondering why I don't want to get up in the middle of the day to do stuff. So I started calling them at 2am to do things with me. No one ever wants to keep my hours, which makes my nights off kind of boring.

I've run into the same problem working nights. Somehow people don't understand that just because they've slept all night doesn't mean the rest of us have.

Except op would be at work in the middle of the night.....

Well, whenever she gets a break.

Thats why you move out of your parents house! So u dont have to justify to anyone how late u sleep in. Tell them to shut up!

Maybe you should switch roomates.

So wake her up at 5 AM every morning when you get home, bitching that because of her lazy ass you can't ever have anyone over for dinner. Which you eat after work. Lunch is at 11 pm.

People are missing the point of this FML, OP works the graveyard shift so she would be at work, not hindering her bitchy roommate to have people over.

No she wouldn't. During normal "let's have people over" hours (about mid morning to mid evening), OP would be at home asleep or something since she works very late at night.

And it wouldn't be possible for OP to sleep in the evening?

It might be, or she'd fall asleep as soon as she got home in the morning, sleep through the afternoon, and get up in the evening before work.

Work 8 hours after being up for a while with minimal sleep, come home at 8am and see if you can wait to sleep in the evening.
