Today, my parents and I went to the movies for my mom's birthday. After the movie, my mom and dad got into a fight, and left me at the movies. My cell phone was dead, and my house was about 12 miles away. They finally came and picked me up, hours later. FML

Maybe they weren't really fighting. Maybe they wanted some special alone time 'cause it was her birthday, and could think of no other way to get it. Either way, it's an FML.

???? Like seriously? Your parents suck, dude. They suck really bad. Really.

Walk! You probably need it. 12 miles is nothing. And who knows, you might even enjoy it... And there is a perk to it, too. When your parents came back and you weren't there, they probably would have wondered what happened and been a little bit worried...

hours later? you could of walked home 12miles isn't far.

That sucks. 12 miles is a lot. I might just be lazy, but I think it's a pretty long distance. By the way, I'm not fat :) Just lazy

To those saying the OP should have just walked -- the average person walks 3 MPH, so 12 miles would have taken 4 hours to walk. Assuming they went to see a movie at night, which probably ended somewhere around 9 PM, that would mean the OP would've been walking until 1 AM. We don't know if he lives in a safe neighbourhood, or if he has a reason he can't walk. I do agree that he could've found a pay phone or asked to borrow the movie theatre's phone, but don't slam him for not walking home.

no sympathy here dude. if he's in a hurry to get home because he's anxious to be left at the theater, honestly do you think he's going to walk the normal walking speed? hell no he's out like a light. so he would make it home a lot sooner if he walked. I know, because when I was younger, I was left at soccer practice which ended at 3:30, and waited till 8:30 pm. to be picked up. I tried calling my parents on three different peoples phones, and still no answer. my house was farther away than 12 miles, but finally I walked home and it wasn't that bad, took 2 1/2 hours. so YDI

Again, he might not have lived in a neighbourhood where it was safe enough to be walking around at that time of night, or he may have some kind of physical disability that prevents him from being able to walk that far.

I wouldve found a payphone or borowed someones phone. but I would have called my grandma or a friend cuz I would have been so pissed they forgot me that I'd disapear for a couple days. from now on just put ur phone on the charger at night I do it and it's never died on me.

YDI for not just asking to borrow someone's phone and calling them

This is a huge YDI. Learn to use a pay phone and / or borrow someone else's phone. You know, that's what people did back 15 years ago when no one had cell phones. I'm sure if you talked to the staff at the movie theater and explained your situation you could have used their phone. Once again YDI for having zero common sense.

Wow, and you could have totally guilted them out. If they got so emotional that they left you there, this is what you should have done: - Ask the theatre to borrow their phone (and their phonebook, if necessary) - Call a friend for a lift. - Go to said friend's house for two or three hours, giving them a bit of time to panic. - Have the friend (or friend's mom or dad) give you a lift home. - Tell them your phone was dead and it took hours to get a lift home, after you started walking. - Get awesome gifts for the next year as your parents try to bail themselves out.

you guys are all missing the point of this fml, as usual. the fml is that the op's parents forgot about him in the midst of their fight, and basically left him stranded at the theater. it's not that his cell phone was dead and had "zero common sense" to get home. you guys just think of an excuse to say ydi every time, and it's really ******* annoying.

I believe he added that in so people wouldn't say "SO, just use your cell phone! Or walk home!" Everyone bitches when not enough info is provided. Now all the info you could need is there, but now everyone is distracted by that. The FML is that his parents don't give a **** about him. But a 12 mile walk is worse than a 1 mile walk, and thus he put that in. It's just the icing on the cake. I also agree with whoever said he probably went to a late movie that ended around 9-10, so walking isn't practical. Plus he may live in a bad area. His parents left him to fend for himself when they were (presumably) the ones with the car.
