I used to have the same problem when I lived with my parents. I would sit in my room and read. They complained. I sat in the living and read. They complained. Don't be sorry you rather build your mind and your vocabulary than watch mind-numbing sitcoms and "reality" TV.
It depends. If you're reading shitty books like the Twilight series while your family sits around watching shitty films like the Twilight series, then yes I suppose it would be anti-social. If, on the other hand, you're reading philosophy, science, history, while your family is watching Honey Boo Boo, then really, who cares what they think?
I see your point, but still, reading>watching
even if the second case were true, OP would srill be being antisocial, thus proving the family correct.
I smell a Matilda moment
Family reading time?
Are you Matilda Wormwood?
WTF?
Idiots...
My mother-in-law is like that. If my father-in-law is reading, she throws a fit because he's not paying attention to her or waiting on her hand and foot. Thankfully, I grew up being encouraged to read. Keep reading, OP, it's good for your mind and soul.

have you seen Matilda?
Sigh. This is what's wrong with this culture. Read on, OP! Your superior intellect and vocabulary will pay dividends.
