I have had 6 litters of rats, they take a month of development and are born. if you got your rat more than a month ago, CHECK YOUR HOUSE in every place.
YDI for getting a rat for a pet.
So someone in your family impregnated the rat?
For the last time, cockroaches are not rat babies !
Did you get your rat from a pet store? Quite often the rats shipped to them are not separated by sex on the way there, and/or the employees don't separate them by sex when they arrive. Rats can reproduce at FIVE WEEKS OLD. Once they get pregnant, it takes one month for the babies to arrive. You brought her home when she was already pregnant. You should raise up the babies and find homes for them... but keep one or two baby girls, since you should NEVER keep only one rat. They are very social creatures and need at least one same sex companion. If you want any help or more information on rats, please ask me or join the Live Journal community called 'Ratties'. We all love rats very much!

Did you buy it when it was pregnant?
Misread the FML as "rabies" and was confused for a long time until I read the comments.
