I am not sure what the laws are but I think he has to take care of the cockroaches and mouse. Look it up. It sounds like you have a slumlord. The landlord should have inspected the place before you guys even looked at it and rented it to you. He shouldn't have been allowed to even rent to you knowing that the place had this problem. In a general walk through you may not see signs of infestation so no it isn't on the renters it is on the landlord.
I lived in a home with roaches at one point and if you have eyes, infestations aren't that hard to spot. You can bomb the place sure, but the bomb leaves an odor behind as well that they could have picked up in an inspection. Be real guys, if you have half a brain you check everything in an inspection so the dick doesn't get your deposit and you take pictures of you're smart. Don't tell them that infestations are easy to miss because they sure as hell aren't. Honestly, both parties are at fault. But op is even more so for not being overly thorough
That sucks OP. Especially since your partner is pregnant so insecticides and other poisons cannot be used near her or the infant when he or she is born.
Look up tenant/landlord phone number three the state
Hire an exterminator and then give the bill to the landlord, or deduct the amount from your rent. Keep receipts.
Depending on where you live, thats probably pretty common. Get an exterminator and if worse comes to worst, move out when the lease is up :)
Get a cat. Thatll help with the rat and maybe the roaches too. Just a temporary solution I guess

You didn't inspect the home before leasing it???
It's his legal responsibility as a landlord to provide you with a livable situation. Mice and cockroaches ain't a livable situation. Have him bring in an exterminator.
