Today, my son turned 8. We watched as he unwrapped a $55 Nerf gun, extra 'bullets', new shoes and a school bag with his favorite TV character on the front and a action figure inside. As he finished he looked me straight in the eyes and says, "That's great ma, but seriously what'd you get me?". FML

He should be happy he's getting things, because there are kids who don't get anything on their birthdays.

Maybe he was expecting an iPhone or ipad ?

If I got a $55 nerf gun, I would be the happiest ************ alive, and I'm turning 17. Yes, I am immature.

I'm 24 and my brother is 20. We still run around the house shooting each other with nerf guns and have battles. Our parents even join in sometimes!

Just take them away from him then say 'nothing' and walk off. Maybe put him up for adoption while you're at it.

See that's when you take their presents awAy and his them make them think you gave them back, you pick out their weekly clothing then hide the rest take their toys there tv and game stations. Teach him to be grateful. Him going to school every week with only seven outfits will get embrassing. Make him help poor families or give some of his old toys away make him give it to them. He'll straighten up then and realize what he has that most don't have them slowly one by one with good and grateful behavior you give him his stuff back keep his new presents for last. My mother had to do that with me and it worked like a charm. I am always grateful for what I have and try to help those in need.

I honestly think your to blame. Kids aren't just naturally greedy and spoiled. You must have spoiled him at a younger age which caused him to think that's how life is supposed to work.

I agree he should have been grateful, but when I was a child, getting shoes and clothes weren't the highlight of my birthdays or Christmas. It's like you all forget what it was like to be a child, and you also can't expect them to understand the value of money at that age.

You bring up a really good point there. People who say "kids today are spoiled" act like they weren't spoiled when they were kids and like they didn't want expensive things for birthdays and holidays. I'm willing to bet they got their N64s or Sega Genesises the same way they say how kids today get their PS3s and Xbox 360s, begging their parents nonstop, and would probably throw tantrums when they didn't get the console they wanted, the only difference between then and today is that today, kids go crying on social media, exposing themselves to the world, while kids back then would bitch and cry in the privacy of their own homes. We were all spoiled in someway when we were kids, and I'll admit that yes, I was spoiled, I just didn't go crying on social media, and I eventually learned my lesson.

"Nothing." is what OP should've said, and then taken these items to Charity/Returned them, child in tow.
