I think you may be looking at this the wrong way. Perhaps he's bored and requires greater intellectual stimulation. Grades are often reflective of this.
@OP That's how Snowden started, so don't sleep on his intelligence. LMAO
and Snowden is a hero.
That says more about the school computers lack of security than any intelligence on the part of the student. I doubt hack is the most accurate word, he probably simply cracked the password.
that is hacking...either way it takes skill
It may be possible that he's not very good with some subjects like most people. But he could be absolutely amazing with a computer. You should try talking to him about it,and if computers interest him support him to do good In school and get a computer programming job or something along those lines.
There's a difference between not being smart and not wanting to put the effort into doing the work.
Correction: he is most likely smart enough to keep his grades up but does not give a damn
He is probably spending too much time hacking and not enough time studying...that was my middle school and freshman year of high school
I went through the same thing. Poor grades in school, but than I switch to a more college like one and I was more interested and independent and magically became a A+ student.
Is it highschool? Highschool is unbelievably hard nowadays. I'm capable of hacking and taking over systems, yet I'm failing because everything is too hard. In not even in advanced classes either.
unless high school has severely changed in three years, and i doubt it from what i've heard/seen, its not unbelievably hard. you just have to be willing to put in the effort and work for the good grades.
That is too funny! Im impressed he got through the network to the computer the grades were on. Did anyone find out he changed his grade?

You might want to look into private school or advanced placement classes, or something along those lines. I'm sure this sounds presumptuous, and I'm sorry for that in advance, but it sounds like his current school situation isn't challenging him enough.
I tend to agree with #1 on this one. I've known a lot of genius kids in my life. Most of them got horrible grades despite being smarter than anyone around them. A gifted program may be helpful in challenging your child and motivating them to do better.
