Taking pictures

Today, I was teaching a high school calculus class. I wrote a complex formula on the board. As I wrote, students asked if they could take a picture of the board and circulate it. I said yes, and I was pleased as everybody seemed to be taking pictures. Soon, I realized why: my skirt was tucked into my underwear. Within a few minutes, every student in the school had an email with a picture of my ugliest pair of floral-printed panties. FML

As a fellow educator, I definitely feel your pain. A lot of people seem to think that a hormonal teenager finding you attractive, and then proceeding to discuss your body is a compliment. It's not. Teachers, like any work place, have the right to do their job without being sexualised.

That being said, you're working with a bunch of hormonal teens that haven't had enough life experience to learn tact or consideration. I'm not saying it's okay that they treat you that way, but it's to be expected. Expecting hormonal teens not to sexualize things is akin to expecting toddlers not to crap their pants. They just don't know better yet. You're in a position to change that.

That is, of course true. I myself have had conversations with students about similar issues in the past. However, writing it off as purely 'hormonal' is absurd. Yes they are going through changes. Does that make disrespecting a man or woman or sexualising them in anyway ok? No.
