Today, my teacher read my story about a haunted house for a class assignment. She liked it very much and turned it in to the office to be sent into a state writing competition. An hour later, I was called to the office where the guidance counselor called my work "disturbing" and said I "need help". FML

Consider that validation that you indeed wrote a good horror story. Props to you, oh demented one!

I would exorcise your right to publication, otherwise this ghoul is in trouble

I had the same thing happen to me once, except it was a different story, and they thought I was suicidal (which I wasn't.) Good luck with the competition! Some people just don't seem to get that although your characters/story may be dark, depressed or maybe even on drugs, it doesn't mean that you are! Imagination has no bounds, it doesn't make you sick in the head because you wrote a massive psychological piece from the viewpoint of a killer, it doesn't reflect your personality in anyway. Good luck!

Edited it. edit it again and finally edited it once more. Now go submit it to amazon and laugh as the cash rolls in. Never stop writing op.

Edgar Allen Poe wasn't nice with his stories with rainbows, and dragons, and unicorns. You're on the right track bro

I feel for you. Same thing happened to me back in 3rd grade.

See about turning it into a script to make some real money.

I think that somebody didnt know that the writing prompt was a haunted house!

Well someone needs to give kids a reality check as there is a high percentage of graduating students being unemployed or underemployed.

And teachers wonder why students aren't willing to take risks in their writing.

Sound like the guidance counselor gave you an idea for your next story ;)
