Today, my teacher read my story about a haunted house for a class assignment. She liked it very much and turned it in to the office to be sent into a state writing competition. An hour later, I was called to the office where the guidance counselor called my work "disturbing" and said I "need help". FML

Consider that validation that you indeed wrote a good horror story. Props to you, oh demented one!

I would exorcise your right to publication, otherwise this ghoul is in trouble

I wonder how many talented writers "need help"

I think you have the makings of a talented writer. Horror, as a genre, at the moment, is lacking! Get in there.

My idiot guidance consuler did the same crap for me when we had to write a scary poem for the Halloween Poetry Slam. She called my mom and everything.

Disturbing is a sign of good literature.

Oh man, I can so relate! I remember one time I let my mom and my aunt read one of my stories and they pretty much straight up staged an intervention about how "worried" they were. It wasn't even a scary/violent story either, IIRC. People just don't seem to realize that the stories we write are fictional. Never assume the characters in the story are stand-ins for the writer. That was the very first thing I learned in my creative writing class.

Well, now I kinda want to read your story. I hope the future writing goes really well, OP!

This is exactly how Stephen King started. His college professor rejected a paper and then it was published. King had his grade changed. Congratulations on the good story!!!
