Yes, red hair is recessive to most other hair colors, but it is dominant over blonde hair, which is recessive to EVERYTHING . Blonde hair is like type O blood, you can't have it unless both of your parents do . So if OP and his wife are both blonde, it is genetically impossible for them to have a red headed baby together .

Like a lot of people are saying, it is possible. I have green eyes where my mom has blue and my dad brown. None of my grandparent, aunts, or uncles have green eyes and neither did my great grandparent or great great grandparents. My eyes probably came from the relatives that died decades ago, which is probably what happened with your baby.
