Just say you were testing how people would respond, since you've been single so long. Or, you could pay a guy a little cash to act like "Nick" and say you met at some place where your friends don't go; then after a couple weeks, just say it didn't work out and they'll probably not see Nick again. Personally though, I think it's better to just tell the truth.
