My husband was recently fired as well. He is an IT in the hospital in a 100 mile radius. He was hired through an IT contracting company that relocated us to an area that is 3.5 hours from our families. This was his first and only assignment with them and his contract expired after a three month period. Well, the hospital loved his work so much that they promised him a permanent position with them as soon as his contract expired. It expired last week. One of his co-workers, that is an employee of the hospital itself and not the IT contractors, got promoted last month and as soon as he was promoted he walked up to my husband and told him that he hates him and that he's fired when his contract is up! That hospital needs him desperately because he is so good at his job. He had saved their ass on numerous occasions in the short three months he was there. One example being that they had a virus that infected all 90 computers. It made it necessary for the IT techs to go to each computer and long in for the nurses and other staff every shift due to the virus. Very time consuming. He not only found the solution to the problem, which every tech had tried to do for months before my husband was there, but also fixed every computer there at the same time! And this was obviously no simple fix. If one mistake was made they would probably have had to replace every computer. That's how serious the virus was. The hospital's CEO saw him do this and praised his ingenuity and that's when he was promised to permanent position with them. And then he was betrayed and fired just because somebody didn't like him! How petty can you be?
My understanding was that sometimes mergers come with job losses on both sides, to avoid redundancy. Why have two people for one position? Maybe its just bad luck and not a personal vendetta. Its still a horrible thing, but...
55-that sucks! But seriously nobody wants to read your rant about your husband losing his job and how unfair it was.
