I'm surprised at all the hate toward OP here. This is not an acquaintance we're talking about, this is her employer. I'm not aware of any obligation to care if your employer dies, nor of any obligation to care more about her welfare than your paycheck. To anyone who says she should not care about the money owed, well, you do it. Go out and work and expect to get paid, and then don't, and see how you feel about it.

Except if they were truly an employee they will get paid from the estate or by family, so this all around is a non-issue. There has to be evidence that they were in fact an employee, probably wouldn't work if this was all under the table work
