Today, the only reason I work 12-hour shifts and close at midnight every Saturday is because my boss doesn't like the fact that I have a boyfriend. FML

He owns the business or I would have already!! I know this because I only started closing this late after he found out I have a boyfriend.

omg its the same exact thing here my bf doesnt get off until 5 and she usually has me come in at 5 and not get off until 1 and makes me work 12 hour shifts on the weekendsss.. the inly days my bf is off :(

Is your boss a man or a woman? I feel like that makes a difference...

I wouldn't let him get away with that. Give that arsehole a piece of your mind! He has no right to discriminate just because he disagrees with how you live your life. If you can take it any higher, maybe put in a complaint about him detailing your concerns with his style of management.

Is it possible to find a new job and quit? This seems incredibly unethical and cruel.

you could just ask him not to close this late this often anymore, acting as if you didn't notice the correlation. sometimes just asking for something can be enough to get it!

Yea, I'd be finding a new job. If I had to guess, your boss is a tool who tried to force his morals on everyone else.

Try "breaking up" with him. At least that's what you tell to your boss.

On the Bright side. It would look great on a resume "Entrusted closing store after hours " that's what I have.

The way I see it you have 3 options. Tell him to back off and make it clear it's not his choice, lie to him and say you broke up with the guy, or quit/threaten to quit. Personally, I opt for the former of the 3. This covers the 'boss may have a crush on you base' and gives him the option of firing you (in which case you may qualify for unemployment and a wrongful termination suit, so he probably won't do that). Not to mention I'm big on honesty and personal accountability, so this is the way I would handle it.

I can relate to this. I used to work for Domino's Pizza (had to quit!!) and my manager had a huge crush on me. He made me close with him every weekend at like 1 a.m and being gross and started making me feel uncomfortable, so I had to quit. Yuck!!

if the boss treats your other co-workers just as badly then ya'll should look into forming a union

why? ur boss sounds like a crabby and party-pooper.

you've got to be kidding? taking to court over getting a shitty shift. ridiculous.
