Today, the power went out at work. As everyone left the building to go home, the owner came in to inform me that, since the phones were on a battery back up, I would be staying to man them. The phones rang 2 times in the 4 hours I sat in the dark by myself. Both times were telemarketers. FML

Aww, in the dark? I would've made a giant blanket fort or something of that caliber.

Getting paid to do next to nothing for four hours... I could think of worse things than boredom.

While it sucks you didn't get to go home, you DID have four hours in the dark to yourself. There's endless possibilities of entertainment there.

You're bitching about getting paid to nit do shit? What a moron.

if the owner wasn't around to supervise you, you should just leave...

If the poster is on salary than they were paid nothing extra to sit in the dark, in such a case I'd say FYL. If your hourly...well, on the bright side you got to sit around doing jack for 4hrs and got paid for it. Try this one on for size, I once got stuck working till 1am on Christmas at a video rental store, we got 2 customers the last 2hrs we were open and I did not get the pleasure of doing what I pleased while my manager sat there with me the whole time.

and you didn't have any form of light at all? I know the power went out but a cell phone or any electronic can give off enough light if you're THAT scared. And I also agree with #50. You shouldn't whine just because you were bored.

Quit yer bitchin. You got paid for 4 hours of doing nothing. Unlike the others.

at least you got paid overtime for it (i hope)

That sounds like fun... an entire office to yourself.

You should have gone and taken a shit in your boss' desk.

Oh man! I feel you! This has happened to me so many times. Everyone else basically gets a free day off... except for me/you. I'm sure they still got paid, they do here. Because they can "work from home." Oh, so that's what that 2 hour long breakfast at Frisch's was? It's like being the ONLY person who has to come in and work a holiday. To answer two crap phone calls. Which, btw, big waist of money on that backup battery, eh?
