Today, was teacher appreciation day at my school. They played a slideshow of all the teachers. The students cheered wildly for every teacher. When my picture came up, nobody clapped. The whole room was quiet. FML

Today, it was my very last day teaching my dance class. After the class ended, the owner of the studio started clapping and told all my students to give me a hug. No one hugged me. No one. FML

Today, I was at a school rally I was talking to my friends when I noticed the entire gym had gotten quiet. Not knowing why I thought it would be funny to yell out "it's too quiet!" apparently it was a moment of silence for a teacher that had recently died. FML

Today, I gave a big presentation to my class. It included PowerPoint slides and video clips of the country I'd been researching. Another student did a presentation on the same country, except he just read from its Wikipedia page. He practically got a standing ovation. I got a single clap. FML

Today, I had to present a powerpoint in front of my class. When I was finished, no one clapped. On my way back to my seat, I slipped on a pencil and fell straight on my face. That's when everyone clapped. FML

Today, at the elementary school where I teach, the kids all voted for their favorite teacher. I was the only one to receive zero votes. When I asked a small group of students why no one voted for me, one boy replied "because you're the ugliest". FML

Today, I went to attend my summer school class again after being out sick for a week. When I said "Here" during roll call, everyone started cheering and clapping. Apparently, my professor has been badmouthing me while I've been absent for pretending to be sick. I'm sure my grade will be fantastic. FML

Them not clapping doesn't mean you're some awesome teacher who's just too strict and they'll appreciate later. It really doesn't, please do not take it as that. I've had some hardass teachers and if they were good at what they did, fair and at least showed that despite their strictness they actually cared for their students they were liked and respected anyways, not always by everyone but by a good portion, certainly enough to clap. My grade 12 math teacher was one of my hardest ever but he knew what he was teaching and was good at what he did and despite his strict teaching style we respected him and a lot of us really liked him. My chem teacher was similar, incredibly challenging teacher and definitely a class you had to work your ass off for, but he was funny and got us involved and interested in the subject to the point where everyone actually Wanted to go to class. If not a single student clapped for you, and they were clapping for ALL the other teachers, there's something seriously wrong, especially if you're teaching past the elementary level. Putting up with awful teachers when students should be learning something isn't a good thing. Do some soul searching, change your teaching methods.
