Learn from it!
That has to be a wake up call. On the upside maybe they lesrn more in your class. Your job is to teach not be their friends but maybe look at your style
I'm a teacher in California, USA. If they booed because you act like a dick (hey, I'm off the clock and on Summer Break), then it's hard to sympathize. If it's because you have strict standards and expectations, then you have to be true to your beliefs. It's kind of nice to have them respect you and like you well enough. You don't need to be their best friend, but at least be fun or funny at times so they look forward to coming to your classroom. It makes the work day a lot more enjoyable. Ya might want to do a bit of soul-searching...particularly if all of your other colleagues received applause (I'm sure you must have some strict colleagues on your staff). All the best to you.
what a rip off
Be a more friendly. How hard the class is doesn't change how much we like a teacher.
Teacher appreciation day? My toilet works and i live in a house, how about plumber/architect appreciation day. You are well paid and have total job security, stop expecting people to worship you for being a teacher
I feel like these posts are so fake. Like... Realistically... The students are going to *wildly* be clapping and cheering for ALLLLL other teachers, but you come up and there's crickets? Out of simple respect, if not for you as a teacher, then for the function recognizing the teachers that the school put together, I think most of the students, even if they don't like you, would politely clap.
Agreed!
Unless you are a terribly horrible person, I think the kids would've at least politely clapped when your picture came up. Maybe not cheered wildly like they did for the teachers they like, but they would've at least clapped...

Hard teachers are usually the ones that teach life lessons... I know mine were.
YDI for being a bad teacher. FYL for having dumb children. Either one works.
