Today, we had to discuss our heritage at school. When I told the class that I'm German, Japanese, and of the Jewish faith, my teacher laughed at the "irony." Something like this always happens whenever I tell people my background. FML

ummmm dude, thats what he said. Of jewish fate (religion).

Umm Dude, Jewish is also and ethnicity and we are NOT white. Do people every make fun of your intelligence?

It really isn't that uncommon to find people of German Jewish heritage. Here in the UK, many Jews fled here from Germany when WWII started becoming imminent and a majority changed their surnames so they wouldn't stand out on paper as being from Germany. This now means that the German-Jewish population is fairly large here. Of course, I suppose if you are from the US, you didn't have that particular influx of immigration so I guess it would still raise eyebrows.

That's not really ironic. Any Jews living in Germany during WWII were German citizens as well. However, their citizenship was stripped from them by the Nazis. The idea of a Jewish "race" is part of false racial science dating before WWI. Also, Japan did not really coordinate with the other Axis Powers as far as military strategy goes, being on the other side of the world and all. They had their own racial-superiority thing apart from the Nazis too. Anyway, my point is to not worry about it, OP. If you were born in the United States, you're a US citizen, and that's all that really matters. However, if you had Italian ancestry as well, I'd have more of a reason to suspect you of being a fascist.

People of all colors, nationalities, and religions fall in love ( usually ), get married, and have babies, it's a fact of life.My ancestors on my mom's side were Wasps and on my dad's side Sicilian and arab. People like to call me a mutt but frankly I'm proud of having the mixture I have, and they're usually not 100% anything either. But really your teacher is an asshole, people associate little things like being jewish or german or japanese with the huge event that WWII was. Personally I think society needs to move on and progress instead of wallowing in the tragedies of the past. We've learned our lesson: Killing other people for being different is BAD!

OP, your background IS a bit ironic. But why would that bother you? You should be the first one to laugh about it. You're the living proof of the uselessness of WW2.
