Today, when I went to the shopping centre, the automatic door wouldn't open for me. I had to stand there and wait until someone else walked by to open it for me. I have dwarfism and this is a daily occurrence. FML

I would assume that it's a problem with the sensor. Maybe not sensitive enough because it opens for my 5 year old sister here.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I don't remember automatic doors ever not working for me when I was a kid. They must make them differently in Australia.

Carry around a stick of some sort to use on the motion detectors. Or jump if you think you'll be tall enough that way

I'd suggest an umbrella. It doesn't look ridiculous to carry around, and if it starts to rain, it will actually serve a purpose.

Well I didn't specifically mean a stick I meant more like some tall everyday object that would reach the detectors. Idk why I got so many downvotes

Might have to raise your hands. Most sensors reach to waist height so that even children can trigger them.

Seems like a SMALL problem that can be fixed with LITTLE effort!! Spend a TINY bit of money at a ball park on a foam hand and use it to wave at the damn thing!!

They don't like being called that, I hear.

Plus, he's not a little person. He has dwarfism. There's a difference.

88, Are you sure? I thought that LPs are very small but proportionally normal, whereas dwarfs have unusual proportions.

I'm surprised when the automatic doors were invented that they didn't consider ppl who were shorter...

I can imagine that must be very frustrating. If this is a place where you come regularly, it might be an idea to talk to the staff about it (or send an e-mail, if that feels less awkward.) After all, shopping centers should be easily accessible for anyone, and you're probably not the only person who's had this problem. (Also, why people would say "you deserved it" for this one is beyond me. Seriously?)

I'm 23 and 4'2, so trust me, I know exactly how you feel. :( This happens all the time.

Don't think your height is such a big concern, OP! The same thing happens to me, and I'm a bit over average for my height. My deduction is that I'm so thin (47kg), it doesn't get a good reading on me. It must be something in our technology, I'm from QLD too!
