Having about two decades worth of experience, I have to say: yes, OP should get checked out, but it isn't always easily fixable and for some women, crazy heavy periods are normal. If paired with painful cramps, it could also be endometriosis, unfortunately there is not very much you can do except for surgically fixing the symptoms.
At least you didn't break your ankle at one of those like I did.
Pretty normal imo. When I'm on my period I throw up upon eating or drinking ANYTHING, and end up passing out almost every time from a combination of generally feeling like shit and dehydration.

I've been having periods for a few years now, and have never passed out because of it. I think OP should see a doctor.
