i do not agree at all with people not being able to talk english in america but times have changed and america is a very diverse place to live. im a white suburb kid but have indian, black and asian friends that i see all the time. you need to be less arrogant twoards the changing of times.

The best thing to do in your situation would be to ask first in normal English, then, if they didn't understand, ask in hand gestures and English. I don't blame him for calling you an asshole. But for the record, I've been around San Francisco a lot, and many of the people you see around the Golden Gate National Recreation area and the Golden Gate Bridge, especially in the Spring and Summer, really are tourists from China and Japan (as well as from several other parts of the world). There's a reason all the signs around the famous places in SF are in several different languages.
