Today, while at the Golden Gate Bridge, I spotted a large group of Asians trying to take a picture. Trying to help, I slowly say, "You... want me... take picture?" while using hand motions. The man looks at me and says, "No thanks asshole, I got it," in plain English. FML

...Really? You've never heard of Asian-Americans (many of whom btw, can speak English fluently; also, many citizens of other countries can speak English just as well as their first language)? Especially in the Bay Area...jeez. It's nice to ask someone if they'd like their picture taken. It's not polite to try to come off arrogant and rude when you're doing it, thinking you're doing humanity a good deed, when in fact you are being a jerk.

Lol, I'm Asian, and I'm not sure how this is really offensive. It's insensitive, I guess, but he just made a mistake. It's not like he was actively trying to offend them or anything. Lighten up. Not everyone is from Fort Lee or the SFBA.

English is the most universal language on Earth. Considering you were in frisco, it'd be natural to actually start with that, no?

no.. what u were being is an asshole

#205 Not all Americans are ignorant, you jack ass. I always hate it when people say that. Sure, a lot of Americans can be ignorant jackasses, but that doesn't mean all of them. I hate this because whenever an American does something foolish, ignorant or jackass-ish everyone looks down upon them, but of course when Americans do something good no one bothers to pay attention. Plus, there are plenty of other people on this site from different countries that have done something stupid. So don't be an ass and discriminate. Name your country and I'll point out many flaws and mistakes your country and it's people have made. Not every country is perfect, and I'm sure you've all discovered that. So don't go around calling countries ignorant, doing so just makes you look like an ignorant asshole. Go to hell.

Try plain old English first, even if they don't know it's a complement and then do that

Being half Asian, and having lived in Indonesia for most of my life, I can vouch that it is painfully annoying to see foreigners or tourists here talking that way to the locals. Making assumptions is foolish to begin with, and as many people have stated, it's best to speak as you normally would speak until it is evident they don't understand you unless you talk slowly (this applies to all languages). But NEVER EVER talk slow and LOUD. They're not DEAF, they just don't understand you.
