Today, while at the store with my mom, we ran into the girl I recently confessed to being interested in. My mom decided to shout, "IS THAT HER?! IS THAT THE GIRL YOU LIKE?!" Embarrassed, I desperately told her to be quiet. She grounded me for being "rude" to her. FML

Today, I went shopping with my Mom. I ran into my crush. A school dance is soon and he WAS just about to ask something but my mom glanced over and yelled "TAMPONS OR PADS, SWEETIE?!" He then changed his question to "Haha, so which?" And before I could say a word, my mother answered for me. FML

Today, I was in a store with my mom. I wandered off, then walked around looking for her. I spotted her, and decided to put on a ski mask to give her a scare for a laugh. I hid around a corner and yelled "BOO!" when I saw her. It wasn't my mom, and I'm now banned from that store. FML

This isn't really an issue of having or lacking tact. Tact is telling the truth in a way that will, hopefully, not offend or hurt anyone's feelings. OP's mum may have yelled something that was embarrassing for him, but it wasn't really hurtful to their feelings.

What are you talking about? It's perfectly acceptable to say, "If she'd handled that with a little more tact, he wouldn't have been so embarrassed." ...And since when is humiliation (however minor it may seem to others) not hurtful?
