Today, while at work I passed out due to my blood sugar not being normal. Despite the fact that it took 10 minutes to wake me, no one thought I was in any sort of danger. After the episode, I then got fired for "sleeping on the job." FML

Shouldn't your coworkers know you have diabetes?

Sucks to have low blood sugar issues. I once passed out shoveling snow, due to blood sugar, off my drive way and nearly froze to death so FYL

HOW THE **** DOES THE OP DESERVE IT, THOSE WHO SAY OP DESERVES IT FOR HAVING LOW BLOOD SUGAR OR DIABETES SHOULD GET THEIR ASSES RAPED IN HELL. HAVING LOW BLOOD SUGAR CAN REALLY KILL YOU! My mom has diabetes as well, one time I was in the car with her and thats when her low blood sugar attacked. SHE NEARLY CRASHED INTO I'LL SAY ABOUT 6 CARS (Yes, I counted) AND CROSSED OVER THE SOLID LANES/LINES. That when was I go "OH SHIT!", but luckily she wasn't fully unconcious and was able to drive and turn left to the correct path of home where there aren't lie any cars around. She was also lucky that there were no cars around and even behind us when we were just close to home. ****, if I weren't there with her she'd most likely die from a fatal crash. OP, FYL indeed. Your boss or ex-boss should've known you had diabetes. When any of your loved ones have diabetes, you're gonna say they deserve it? Wow, shove all that sweet and fatty foods up your asses.

True, but it's not worth getting that mad over. Some Type I diabetics can sense a low coming on and correct in time (eating something sweet). Others have more wildly varying blood sugar or are not as good at sensing when they are low. While I would say your mom should have been checking more often and eating something sweet as soon as she was slightly low, that may not fit her particular situation. Still....

He deserves it for being so dumb he didn't inform anyone in the office, which could've very well have led to his death in a situation like this, and for then just allowing himself to be fired, instead of suing their ass to oblivion. Duh.

Fight it, jesus. You can't be legally fired for that if you can prove that it was because you had an episode of low blood sugar.

DONT BELIEVE THIS STORY ONE BIT. If you passed out from low blood sugar than nothing would have woken you until you got IV sugar from Paramedics. You wouldn't have said coworkers took 10 mins to wake you if that is true. Think about it people their sugar didn't just magically increase.

I totally agree. That's what I said in post #33.

1. It sounds like co-workers were trying to wake the OP up, and perhaps someone gave him or her a beverage or something else that contained sugar. That, or possibly shaking and yelling, could have woken the OP. It is just a possibility though. 2. Explain the situation and see if you can get your job back. I am not certain wether or not the employer can be held to discrimination laws, because without knowing the OP has diabetes, there was no intent to discriminate, and therefore the boss did not know they were violating the Americans Disability Act. I would say sue them, but I don't know if you could prove intent in this case. 3. OP I'm sorry that happened. I know blood-sugar problems are tough, and can be extremely hard to control. Family members of mine have struggled with blood-sugar problems. I hope you are feeling better, and that everything works out. : )

if she passed out from low sugar co-workers would not have given them candy or juice, they wouldnt be awake to swallow it. The story is either made up or not telling the whole thing. I vote for made up.

I've been able to have juice and honey while passed out. It's definitely possible.

I thin in some cases the liver can release excess glucose stores if blood sugars drop really low which can re-awaken you. I know when I go low (just slightly) and wait a while to treat it for various reasons it sometimes goes up even though I haven't eaten in hours (just woken up). You only get a few words to tell the story, maybe you guys could just assume that OP isn't a complete moron and did more than you give them credit for.

Seriously? Because of your "blood sugar not being normal," and the fact you have diabetes must mean you had the time to either inform someone, or get some sugar inside of you. You're not going to fall over in a second and everyone around you think "Oh it's fine, he must have fallen asleep." BS. For people that have diabetes, that's not even funny.
