Today, while driving home, I swerved to avoid turning a duck and her babies into roadkill. Another car was coming around a sharp bend at the time and swerved to avoid hitting me. In the end, we both ran our cars off the road, and he took out several ducks in the process. FML

It may sound irrational but you are actually spose to just hit the ducks and not swerve so you don't end up hurting someone else. Your efforts were valiant though.

by the looks of the comments it like everyone has become an expert driving instructor. op hope you and the driver are ok, sounds like you were driving near/ on a country lane/ B-road. shit like this happens, but dont let this put you off driving.

You're not supposed to swerve to avoid animals, unless they're large enough to damage your car. And why would you swerve as you're coming up to a sharp bend? Recipe for disaster.

A woman in my province is facing criminal negligence charges because she did exactly what you did. She killed a man and his 8 year old daughter in the process. You gotta revise your priorities.

Everyone's saying YDI, but nobody seems to have stopped to think that maybe it was a knee jerk reaction to swerve. Most people, upon seeing something in the road, want to avoid it. Hope everyone here recovers quickly.

It's cold to say, but there'll always be more ducks. If it's a choice between killing ducks and (assumedly) a lot of money in car repairs and insurance payments, kill the ducks.

This is why people need to think a little harder. Would you rather kill a duck or end up in jail for killing a person? Sorry it sounds mean, but seriously. You'd feel a lot worse if you killed a human rather than a duck..
