Today, while driving home, I swerved to avoid turning a duck and her babies into roadkill. Another car was coming around a sharp bend at the time and swerved to avoid hitting me. In the end, we both ran our cars off the road, and he took out several ducks in the process. FML

It may sound irrational but you are actually spose to just hit the ducks and not swerve so you don't end up hurting someone else. Your efforts were valiant though.

I hope your car is totaled for being irresponsible you could have caused a fatal car crash because of ducks

As bad as it is, you just gotta keep going for your safety and others on the road. As long as it can fit under your car, and wouldn't damage it, you're supposed to keep going straight and hope for their lives that they get the **** out of the way before you get to them. I've only had my license for a year, and I've hit a raccoon, a possum, and a frog, because they didn't get out of the way in time and there was cars behind me so it's not like I could've stopped. It's sad, but your safety is more important than theirs.

Sorry for your luck OP but this is an YDI. Drivers Ed 101 teaches you to never swerve or slam on your brakes for animals. It sucks for them but that's the only way the roads stay safe for you and other drivers.

the amount of people who truly believe their lives are worth more than everything else's is a little disgusting and pathetic to me.

at least your mind was in the right place!!

I'd brake in that situation. I'm actually considering getting a bumper sticker that says something like "I brake for God's creatures."

My brother was killed by another driver swerving to avoid a small animal. Please hand in your licence before you kill someone.
