Today, while swimming in the ocean, I felt some sand under my wedding ring. I took it off for a second, and got hit by a huge wave. My ring is now lost somewhere in the ocean. FML

I guess I didn't put on the FML that I am a male. My wife told me that she wants me to wear my ring (except during work, which is Aviation and we're not allowed). I told her I wasn't comfortable wearing it in the ocean, and she said I had to anyway. After losing my ring, my wife bought snorkel equipment and I spent an hour diving for it until the sun set. My wife and I have been married for 5 years, and we both got a laugh out of it, and we purchased another ring the next day in a Hawaiian market that now has a story and more meaning than the first ring.

Where did taking your ring off in the ocean sound like a good idea?

Why does your wife get to decide what you should do if you don't feel comfortable with it? I'm glad everything worked out though.

Now your ring is lost out there along with the Heart of the Ocean. Oh what treasures the ocean must hold!

Hey don't feel bad. My father has lost his twice. In the same spot. Lol

At least...that's the story you told your spouse. Yes it was a good plan and you would have gotten away with it to if it hadn't been for us damn kids.

and that meddling dog of yours too!!!

Why would you go swimming with such important jewelry?

You should have waited until you were on land to do something like that. personally I wouldn't wear any jewelry in the ocean myself.

Where do you people put these valuables while you swim? Alone on the shore where the fml could instead say "Today I took my wedding ring off before going in the water and it got stolen. FML"

Well, you should probably just leave it home/hotel if one decides to go to the beach... The ocean and the shore can both be bad choices lol

Oceans: the most talented thief out there....

Well it's going farther than your marriage

How do know the op is not a he Both husband and wife both get wedding rings

That's sweet. I'm happy it turned out well for you. That's something adorable your children and grandchildren will love to hear about someday.

Wife: wear your ring all the time you're not allowed to take it off or you best sleep with one eye open Wife: let's go snorkelling for your ring! teehee giggle times. You have a cool wife! Glad the story ended up well but I hope she learned her lesson. Apparently, when you're not comfortable doing something and you're forced to do it bad things will happen...

my husband had something similar happen this summer. we were having fun playing Frisbee with friends at the beach and he fell back into the water and came up with no ring. we spent three hours searching with no luck. I bought him another ring that he likes even more the next day and so far its still there. haha stuff happens, just got to roll with it and laugh. :)

You should have waited until you were back on land before removing it. YDI still.

The fact that she dictates when and where you wear your ring is a little ridiculous.

Weird, I recently sold a silver band to a guy who lost his wedding ring in Hawaii, I wonder if that was you

Funny but my god dude you're whipped XD

I'm glad she could laugh it off, but she should not be deciding when you wear your ring. No one should have control over their spouse like that.

I thought your wife was going to kill you. You have a keeper, OP.

neither my husband nor I wear ours because he's a firefighter and I also work aviation so not even authorized near a maintenance floor. glad your wife didn't stay mad.

My dad lost his wedding ring when we lived in Hawaii too! He lost a lot of weight and slipped off while he went snorkeling. It was nowhere to be found, unfortunately.

Just wondering, howcome you can't wear your ring as a pilot?

Well now I feel bad for hitting ydi. Apologies, OP.

u shouldve been like 'hey dumb bitch u know how u say wear my fukn ring even tho i said its a ba idea well guess what idiot its gone now u dumb ***** go die'

116 - I got that he works on planes, but I could be wrong. People who work on the planes aren't allowed to wear rings because they can get caught on things and that can cause serious injuries. I've heard horror stories from my teacher who used to be in the Air Force about guys who wore their rings to work.

That's good that she laughed about it. :) Sounds like something out of a romantic comedy.haha

My father in law doesn't work in aviation but he did some factory work at one point in his life and his wedding ring saved his finger from getting cut off. The ring is ruined but he still has his finger.

Wow, that's a pretty nice ending to a crappy story!

If I was you I'd get a ring tattoo on that finger you've been married 5 years and it seems happy so a tattoo accomplishes all the things ur wife wants with out you being uncomfortable

They're married, not dating or engaged. She has every right to insist he keep his ring on at all times...

I'm glad your story had a happy ending! Why can't you wear your ring in aviation?

Which island were you on? I live in Hawaii. By the way, I've seen people lose plenty of things because of the waves. Sunglasses, hats, keys, and even their swimsuits.

One day in the far future, when people start searching the ocean in Hawaii, they're going to have fun with all these lost wedding rings
